Speed is very important in order to improve your skills and master punching. It is not an easy task though. Learning to punch faster requires dedication and hard work. Things You Need
To start your training to learn how to punch faster you will want some things that will assist you. You will want a punching bag, a speed bag, weights, resistance bands and boxing gloves. All of these things are going to help you develop your muscles and work your body in the way it needs to get your punching speed built up and improved.
Building Strength
In order to punch faster you need to build up the strength in your body and your arms. Many punches get their power from your legs or your torso. When these parts of your body are stronger, you are able to move faster and get those punches fired off more quickly.
For your arms you can start a weight training program where you are focusing on building the muscles in your arms. You also will need to do some punching training. One great tool to help you out with your punches is to use resistance bands when you punch. The bands will provide resistance against your punches, making you have to work harder and your muscles have to work harder.
When using the resistance bands you should start training with the bands and then take them off and throw some more punches. You will notice an instant change in the speed of your punches. Over time this will help you improve the speed of your punches without having to use the bands at all.
Working on Speed
Gaining muscle strength is not the only thing you will need to do to gain speed in your punches. You also will need to train your mind and body to work together to throw these punches in a fast and rhythmic manner. To do this you might want to try working with a speed bag. A speed bag will let you fire off punches quickly while also training you to throw the punches at a rhythmic pace.
Perfecting Your Form
Throwing faster punches means you must have perfect form. If your form is weak then you are at a great risk of injury. A punching bag can be a great tool to use to practice and perfect your form. You should simply practice moving around the bag and throwing different punch combinations.
Learning how to punch faster takes time. You can’t push yourself to learn too fast. Be aware that the time it takes to improve your speed allows you to build up your muscles, get your body ready to punch faster and to perfect your form so you can safely throw faster punches. How To Punch Harder
It is a common mistake of people who want to learn how to punch harder to start extreme muscle building training. The truth is that the strength of your punch doesn’t come from bigger muscles. Your punching power is a matter of your technique and how to use your body to power and follow through on a punch. Having stronger muscles, though, does not hurt your efforts. For the best increase in punching power you want to combine working on technique and building stronger muscles.
Technique Training
To work on your punching technique it is great to use a punching bag. You can move around the bag and throw all different types of punch combination’s at it. Punching bags are pretty easy to find since most gyms will have one. Your focus when working on technique should be to have perfect form. At this point you are not going to focus too much on how hard you are hitting. Just focus on how well you are hitting.
You need to be hitting the bag with accuracy and with the right form. If you have bad form and you increase the power behind your punch then you are just setting yourself up for injury.
It is also important to note where the power for each punch is coming from. In general a jab is not going to have much power behind it at all. This is a punch that will set you up for heavier punches like a cross. With the cross and the hook your power is coming from the hips. With an uppercut your legs and torso are behind the power the punch. Make sure when practicing technique that the power for each punch is coming from the correct area of your body.
Weight Training
The second part of your training when learning how to punch harder is building your muscles. Avoid the urge to focus only on upper body. As mentioned you also need strong muscles in your lower body and in your core. You should be lifting weights to helps strengthen your arms, but also do lower body work and add in some sit ups and other core strengthening exercises.
Working on the Punching Strength
once you have been training for technique and building your muscles you can then begin to work on increasing your punching strength. You need to engage your whole body and put power behind the punch. Do not let your arm do all the work. Practice over and over throwing all different types of punches until you are up to the power level where you want to be.
Learning how to punch harder is something that takes time and hard work. You can’t just go into the gym one day expecting to increase your punching power. It takes days, weeks, even months of work to get your body in the right shape to throw hard punches. Just remember that throwing harder punches is not just about being stronger. It is about good form, understanding how your body plays a role in the punch and then working to get your muscles and mind in sync to throw those power packed punches.
